Marion County Deputies Investigating Fatal Reddick Stabbing
The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating a weekend stabbing that left one person dead in Reddick.
Deputies responded early Saturday morning to a home along West Highway 318.
Investigators say a man was found dead at the scene.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident as a homicide.
Authorities had not released extensive details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing as of early Monday morning.
Data Centers Back Before Marion County Commissioners Today
Marion County commissioners will continue their discussion over the future of large data centers during a public workshop at 2 p.m. today at the McPherson Governmental Campus.
The meeting comes after commissioners voted 4-to-1 last week to approve a 12-month moratorium on new applications for large commercial data centers requiring 50 megawatts or more of power.
Smaller facilities below the 50-megawatt threshold are not covered by the moratorium.
The temporary pause gives county officials time to consider permanent land-use regulations. Data centers have generated considerable local debate involving electricity and water demand, noise, development and the effect large facilities could have on Marion County's rural character.
New AI Guidelines Coming to Florida Schools
Florida education officials have approved new policies governing the use of artificial intelligence in public schools and state colleges.
The Florida Board of Education approved guidelines requiring school districts to amend their internet-safety policies to address artificial intelligence.
State colleges will also be required to establish limitations governing the use of AI in educational settings.
The statewide requirements will apply to school districts including Marion County Public Schools as educators continue determining how artificial-intelligence tools should be used in classrooms and student work.
Development Review Committee Meets Today
Marion County's Development Review Committee meets at 9 a.m. today.
The committee reviews development projects and technical issues involving county infrastructure, including roads, utilities and stormwater requirements.
The meeting is one of several county activities scheduled for Monday.
The county's data-center workshop follows at 2 p.m.
New Dairy Queen Opens in Northwest Ocala
A new Dairy Queen is scheduled to open today in northwest Ocala.
The restaurant is located near the Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 27 interchange and features the chain's updated restaurant design.
The opening comes nearly two years after Ocala officials initially approved development of the location.
Looking Ahead to Tuesday
The Ocala/Marion County Transportation Planning Organization Board meets Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The TPO oversees regional transportation planning and helps establish priorities for transportation projects and funding throughout Ocala and Marion County.
The Marion County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee also meets Tuesday morning at 8:30.
