Marion County Sends Food Truck Regulations Back for Revisions
Marion County commissioners have directed staff to substantially revise proposed regulations covering food trucks and temporary roadside vendors.
The decision followed a public hearing Wednesday in which local business owners raised concerns about several proposed requirements.
Commissioners agreed to remove a provision requiring notarized permission from property owners and directed staff to reconsider other issues involving seating, utilities and operating requirements.
County staff will rewrite the proposed ordinance before bringing it back for another public hearing.
Community Meeting Today on Wyomina Park Elementary
Parents and residents concerned about the future of Wyomina Park Elementary School are expected to participate in a Marion County Public Schools community meeting today.
The School Board previously postponed a proposal involving the possible closure or rezoning of the school after families voiced opposition.
District officials have since scheduled opportunities for parents and community members to provide additional input before a final decision is made.
Tourist Development Council Meets Today
The Marion County Tourist Development Council is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. today.
The council advises the Board of County Commissioners on matters involving tourism promotion and the use of tourist development tax revenue.
Tourism remains an important part of Marion County's economy, particularly through the area's equestrian industry, sporting events and outdoor attractions.
Man on Murder Probation Arrested Following ATV Stop
A Marion County man who authorities say was on probation for murder is back behind bars following an ATV traffic stop.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office says a deputy stopped 35-year-old William Myers Monday while he was driving an ATV on Northeast 245th Street without a valid driver's license.
Deputies say Myers also faces charges involving vehicle theft, burglary and criminal mischief.
Authorities say Myers was convicted of second-degree murder in Marion County in 2009 and was placed on supervised release last year.
Forecasters Watching Atlantic Disturbance
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure in the eastern Atlantic that could develop into a tropical depression.
As of Wednesday afternoon, forecasters gave the disturbance a 60 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next two to seven days.
The system remains several thousand miles from Florida and is moving west to northwest across the Atlantic. Forecasters say environmental conditions could become less favorable for development by the weekend.
