Strong Storms Damage Ocala Homes
Ocala residents are cleaning up after severe weather brought down trees and power lines Saturday.
Ocala Fire Rescue responded to two separate homes damaged by falling trees.
At a home in the 3100 block of Southeast Eighth Street, a large tree crashed through the roof, damaging the kitchen, living room and a bedroom.
Crews later responded to another home in the 3700 block of East Fort King Street, where a tree damaged a fence and roof.
Despite the significant property damage, officials reported no injuries in either incident.
Southwest Marion County Intersection Closes Today
Drivers in southwest Marion County should prepare for a temporary road closure beginning today.
The intersection of Southwest 80th Street and Southwest 77th Court is scheduled to close for approximately five days.
Marion County says a posted detour will direct motorists along Southwest 80th Avenue and State Road 200 while the work is completed.
$28.3 Million in Marion County Road Projects Moving Forward
Marion County is moving ahead with approximately $28.3 million in roadway projects designed to address transportation needs as the county continues to grow.
Among the projects moving through the county's transportation program are roadway widening, resurfacing and capacity improvements.
County officials say design work also continues on projects intended to improve traffic flow and safety along heavily traveled corridors.
Data Center Debate Continues Tonight
Residents will have an opportunity tonight to learn more about the debate surrounding data center development in Marion County.
A citizens workshop is scheduled to address issues including water consumption, electricity demand, noise and other potential impacts associated with large data center projects.
The meeting comes as Marion County continues reviewing possible regulations and a proposed temporary moratorium on new data center development.
Weirsdale Man Killed in State Road 25 Crash
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday morning in Marion County.
Troopers say a 43-year-old Weirsdale man was driving south on State Road 25 when his pickup left the roadway, struck a utility pole and fence, and overturned.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
