County Commissioners Meet Today

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners is holding its regularly scheduled meeting today.

Commissioners are expected to discuss zoning issues, development matters, and conduct a public hearing regarding the county's updated Local Mitigation Strategy, a plan designed to strengthen disaster preparedness and recovery efforts across Marion County.


Southwest 66th Street Bridge Closure Underway

Motorists are being advised to plan for alternate routes following the closure of the Southwest 66th Street bridge over Interstate 75.

Transportation officials say the bridge reconstruction project is expected to take approximately one year to complete. Drivers should follow posted detours and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.


Sheriff's Office Announces Results of Major Operation

The Marion County Sheriff's Office has announced the results of a recent multi-agency operation targeting online child predators.

Officials report that more than 50 arrests were made during the operation, which involved cooperation among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Authorities say protecting children remains a top priority for participating agencies.


Summer Feeding Program Continues

Marion County Public Schools continues providing free meals to children through its Summer Feeding Program.

District officials estimate more than 142,000 meals will be distributed this summer at sites throughout Marion County, helping ensure children have access to nutritious food while school is not in session.


Mobile Health Unit Visiting Dunnellon

The Florida Department of Health's Mobile Health Unit is scheduled to be at the Dunnellon Public Library today.

The unit provides health information, community resources, and outreach services to Marion County residents. The visit is part of the department's ongoing effort to expand access to health services throughout the county.
