Marion County Day 2024 Tomorrow!
Food trucks, local arts & crafts, fun activities, and more — come join us as we celebrate Marion County's 180-year history at Marion County Day! Saturday, March 23, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Admission is completely free, so bring your friends and family listen to presentations from local historians, and view artifacts from Marion County's history. Kids of all ages will enjoy multiple bounce houses, a petting zoo, archery, and other fun activities throughout the day.

Marion County Sees Higher Kindergarten Readiness Scores
Marion County has seen a notable rise in kindergarten readiness, with 64% of Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) participants demonstrating readiness, compared to 35% of non-participants. This success follows the expansion of VPK to all public elementary schools, focusing on early literacy and math. The county progressed to 37th in the state from 66th last year, with 49% of kindergarten students meeting readiness levels, surpassing last year's performance by 14 percentage points. Superintendent Dr. Diane Gullett attributes this achievement to the district-wide implementation of VPK, emphasizing its role in improving early learning outcomes. Statewide, kindergarten screenings are conducted within the first 30 days of the school year, utilizing the FAST Star Early Literacy as the screener, to customize education for each student's needs.
