Ocala's Rapid Report

Jan 19, 2024 Ocala's Rapid Report

Saturday Inaugural Brick City Bluegrass Festival

The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is excited to announce the inaugural Brick City Bluegrass Festival tomorrow Saturday, January 20 from 2 - 8 p.m. in downtown Ocala!

This all-ages, outdoor music festival will feature both nationally known and local bluegrass bands, including headliner Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers. Named Entertainers of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) in 2019, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers have consistently delivered chart-topping radio hits and energetic performances for nearly 15 years.

In addition to live music and entertainment, the event will feature a variety of food trucks. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. Coolers will not be permitted inside the event area.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $25 per person. Gate tickets will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the event sells out. Children eight and under and veterans are free.

2024 OTrak Chalk Walk

Enjoy watching professional artists create unique chalk drawings along the OTrak for a chance to win Best in Show, Second Place, and People’s Choice. First Place will receive $500, Second Place and People’s Choice Award will receive $250 each. OTrak Chalk Walk is a new event and part of the Tuscawilla Art Park Series brought to you by Ocala Cultural Arts.

This event is FREE and open to the public! Alongside the chalk competition, there will be food trucks, local artisans and vendors, and live musical performances by Mike Abbott, The Mudds, Ecliff, Fareeza, and Becky Baby at the Art Park. Families and friends are invited to draw their chalk art with provided supplies for $10 (cash only) as well as vote for People’s Choice. Visit the Ocala Cultural Arts information tent to purchase chalk.

The theme for the 2024 OTrak Chalk Walk professional competition is “O, The Places We’ll Go.” A travel and transportation theme inspired by the OTrak pathway linking City Hall to the Tuscawilla Art Park. This competition is open to artists currently working and residing in the state of Florida. For more information or to apply as a participating artist, visit www.ocalafl.gov/chalkwalk or call 352-629-8447
