Ocala To Play Host For Rock The Country Music Festival

Update on the Plane that went down in Paynes Prairie

 

The pilot of a small single-engine plane that went down in Paynes Prairie on Tuesday afternoon was found dead at the scene.

Several Micanopy residents called the CCC about seeing a plane go down over the Paynes Prairie State Park around 2 pm. Unfortunately, the area is over 30 sq miles of difficult-to-traverse area that the Alachua County Sheriff’s dept needed to search.

The plane’s wreckage was discovered around 5:15 p.m. in a heavily wooded area within Paynes Prairie. After ACSO deputies secured the scene overnight, the investigation was turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The pilot was the only person on board, and the medical examiner's office will confirm the identity soon. According to the State, The Chacala Trail at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is temporarily closed.
