A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday at the Marion Technical College (MTC) campus, marking the commencement of construction on a $5.57 million training facility for automotive, diesel, and aviation technicians. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to be operational before September 2025. Once completed, the 16,000-square-foot building will accommodate up to 100 students, including dual-enrolled high school and adult learners, who will have the opportunity to train as automotive general service technicians, automotive collision refinishing technicians, aviation powerplant/airframe mechanics, and diesel systems technicians. This initiative, as highlighted by Marion County Public Schools in a press release, aligns with the region's growing reputation as a logistics and distribution hub, and the presence of Ocala International Airport. The expansion programs at MTC aim to meet the rising demand for careers in these fields and contribute to the local Ocala/Marion County community by retaining graduates. The new facility will feature three classrooms, multiple work bays, storage space, an office area, and restroom facilities. Additionally, funds will be allocated for the provision of initial technology, tools, equipment, and furniture for the facility, as stated in another MCPS media release.
